A great leadership quality that very few people talk about: closing the loop.
Sometimes I go and ask someone for an introduction or an answer to a question. They take their time and offer help. I thank them for their time and leave. But I used to rarely go and tell them how their help impacted what I tried to achieve.
Closing the loop means updating someone on the impact of the help they offered.
It gives me a lot of joy when someone comes back and tells me how the help positively (or some times negatively!) impacted them. It is also a learning opportunity. I want to give the same same joy to anyone who helps me. It is basic decency.
Closing the loop may sound trivial, but I see so many times people don't do it.
